What is International Snow Leopard Day?

The 23rd October marks the anniversary of the adoption of the landmark ‘Bishkek Declaration’ on the conservation of the elusive big cat, an agreement signed by 12 range countries in 2013.

To celebrate we are highlighting five major milestones made by Snow Leopard Vodka and The Snow Leopard Trust over the last 12 months.

1.Recently two Snow Leopard Vodka representatives visited the Snow Leopard Trust HQ in Seattle where we were honoured to present a cheque for over $250,000. Between sales from our vodka and other fundraising initiatives we have now raised nearly $300,000 in total for snow leopard conservation and it continues to be our passion and motivation for the brand.

2.For the first time ever, we now know how large a snow leopard's home range is - and what that means for conservation. To find out more head over to the Snow Leopard Trust.

3.Earlier this year, Mongolia declared Tost Mountain, where we've been studying snow leopards and running community conservation projects, a National Park. The area had previously only had a low-level protection status, and was threatened by mining. Now, it looks much safer - and that's largely due to the efforts of the local community, who have been empowered by the SLT to step up for conservation for a long time. At Snow Leopard Vodka, this has been a project close to our heart from the very beginning.

4.Over very own Stephen Sparrow, the founder of Snow Leopard Vodka was, this summer, appointed the very first “overseas” board member of the Snow Leopard Trust and attended his first board meeting in the Seattle HQ in September. Established purely as a means of contributing to the ongoing efforts for snow leopard conservation, Stephen set up the Snow Leopard Trust UK back in 2006, which celebrated its 10-year anniversary this year also!

5.Since 2015, The Snow Leopard Trust has been co-managing a wildlife reserve called Shamshy, with the Kyrgyz government. Everyone involved strongly suspected to find snow leopards there due to pug marks and other evidence but didn't have proof and now, we can exclusively reveal the first images caught by camera trap of them in this reserve.
