Snow Leopard Enterprises
Helps the women in poor herder families increase their family's
quality of life by being trained to spin wool and make traditional
handicrafts. These products are then sold internationally which
typically increases a family's household income by 50%.
Livestock Insurance
Participating herder families will be compensated for loss of
livestock taken by predators, in return for which the families
promise not to conduct retribution killings of snow leopards.
Livestock Vaccination
Reducing livestock loss to disease helps herders tolerate living
with predators. In a typical year a herder family will lose ten
times more livestock to disease than to Snow Leopard attacks.
Eco-Education Many of the children living in
snow leopard habitat are unable to attend school because of the
remote locations of their homes. Eco summer camps are staged to
provide children with elementary education, the opportunity to make
new friends and to learn about the environment which they share
with snow leopards.
Science based Research
Increasing scientific knowledge about the elusive snow leopard and
its remote environment is critical to saving these magnificent
cats. The long term research project being undertaken by the Snow
Leopard Trust in the Tost Valley of the South Gobi desert will
provide valuable information and data to help secure the species
survival.
